Undefined Feature

Phasing

There were only two finds from this feature, a prehistoric blade and a Romano-British pot sherd. It was cut by another undefined feature (012AD08194), which contained part of a fired clay loomweight. This implies that 012AD08517 was at the latest Anglian or more probably later Roman in date.

Discussion

This was a small excavated segment of what was a much larger feature. The fill was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/4), with 10% chalk inclusions (0.5-2.5cm in diameter). No daub or charcoal flecking were noted. The fill was distinctive in that it contained a much higher clay content than the fills in the surrounding features.

The feature was cut into sand & gravel, with a flat-based V-shaped profile.
