Phasing

This enclosure ditch is one of a sequence of a least eight phases (directly stratigraphically linked with only two of the other recuts, this is one of the middle phases). Click here to go to a separate Master matrix page, which shows all eight phases of the sequence.

Discussion

This is one of three ditches (with 012AD00819 and 012AD01018) which only appeared on the surface in this excavated segment, thus confirming the number of recuts which were only visible in section further to the south. This was the westernmost of the ditches in the main enclosure sequence, although just over half a metre to the west are two further ditches (012AD00775 and 012AD00785). No objects and no indentifiable animal bones were recovered from the fill, which was a fine sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2), with daub and charcoal flecking and 10% chalk inclusions.
