Pit Pair


Discussion

One of a pair of pits (with 011AE00427) which were found during the excavation of a machine trench (011AE00423). The finds of flint and the dark (Munsell 10YR32), loamy nature of the soil indicated that both of these pits were Neolithic in date. A feature of Neolithic pits across the site is that they were often found in pairs, the significance of which is not fully understood. The pit was not fully excavated as it was discovered at the end of the 1990 season.
