Two of the post holes contained Middle Saxon potsherds, although a number of the other features contained prehistoric pottery.

Discussion

A small, almost square, post or post in trench structure in the south of area 11AA, to the north of the north side of the large enclosure ditches in area 11AB. Alternatively, the features in this area may have been fence structures. The post holes were particularly difficult to determine due to the amount of solution holes in the area. They were only defined  after the removal of 2 cleaning spits (011AA00172 and 011AA00177). Many of the post holes contained post pipe features (some possibly solution holes). Many of the holes were elongated and may have been the remnants of a series of shallow trenches containing post pipes. The internal arrangements of the structure are difficult to interpret, a line of post holes in the south side may have been a small internal partition. A further line of post holes appear to divide the structure into two parts down the length. A small, square enclosure formed by stake holes within trenches in the south/east corner performed an unknown function. No doorways were immediately apparent. A large post hole or pit contained a Middle Saxon pottery vessel (011AA00081).
