Discussion

A series of north/south aligned gullies in areas 2DA and 2DB. The master number for the southward continuation of the gullies in this master is 002DB00075. The complex was immediately to the west of a medieval headland and it seems likely that the gullies were associated with a medieval field boundary. The edges and base of the gullies are iron-panned, indicating the presence of water.

Four distinct gullies appear on the digitised plan but this is a simplification as the exact number of gullies in the complex was never established. Twenty-six segments of the eastern gully were excavated (master 002DB00114). The east central gully that appears on the digitised plan was not excavated, the west central gully had three segments excavated (master 002DA00053) and the west gully two (present in this document).

The gullies cut through two Grubenhauser, 002DA00194 (cut by master 002DA00053) and 002DA00124 (cut by master 002DB00114).
