Undefined Feature

Phasing

The only pottery recovered was later Roman (2 sherds). Apart from being sealed by spits 012AD00526 and 012AD00560. the feature had no other startigraphic relationships. It was located just to the south-east of the pebble surface 012AD01005.

Discussion

Although the notes have it down as a natural depression in the chalk, this was classified as an undefined feature, because of the number of finds recovered. The fill was a fine (Munsell 10YR 4/2) sandy loam, with <10% chalk inclusions. It was very similar in nature to the hillwash in the area. A little daub or charcoal flecking was present.

The feature was cut into hillwash, with an uneven, bowl-shaped profile.
