Ditch

Discussion

The southernmost segment (012AD05222) has been included in its own master rather than 012AD08341 because a pit 012AD05220 apparently cuts 012AD05222 and is then cut by ditch segment 012AD05066. It was not included as part of Master 012AD07219 because a segment of that enclosure also cuts through 012AD08341.

Generally, the ditch had a wide, flat-based gentle V-shaped profile, although this was difficult to ascertain where the plough truncation was most severe on the chalk to the west. The ditch was cut into fragmented chalk. The feature contained no finds, and was filled with a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3) with 30% chalk inclusions.
