Discussion

A linear ditch aligned north/south from a butt-terminal at its southern end (012AC00112) to its intersection and termination with enclosure ditch 012AB07194. No trace of the ditch was found to the south but it is possible that it continued up the slope and has been destroyed by plough truncation. The northern end of the ditch was defined under spit 012AC00018 where it was shown to cut pit 012AC00054 and post hole 012AC00132. The relationship between the ditch and 012AB07194 could not be defined during excavation. It is possible that the two ditches are contemporary forming the northern and western sides of an enclosure; ditch 012AB00860 is aligned parallel to 012AC00052 thirty metres to the east and could possibly form the opposite side.
