Discussion

This was a roughly rectangular spit, excavated behind the small remnant structure 012AG00053, in order to test for any further structural remains. No further archaeological features were revealed. The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/4), with 30% chalk inclusions. Finds were six later Roman pot sherds, a tile fragment and a snail shell, as well as a small fragment of mineralized animal bone.
