Discussion

Very little in the way of material culture was recovered from this phase, which was almost completely removed by later recuts 012AD00918 and 012AD00920. Unfortunately, any relationship with the other early phase (012AD00754), was also totally removed. The ditch was cut into chalk bedrock and hillwash, with a flat-based U-profile. The fill was a fine sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2) with 5-10% small (<2cm) chalk inclusions. Both charcoal and daub flecking were noted, a characteristic of all of the fills on the eastern arm of the enclosure sequence.
