Phasing

The only diagnostic material found were four later Romano-British pot sherds. However, it cut through ditch 012AD07230, which contained an Anglian sherd.

Discussion

The pit contained a single fill, a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), with 10% chalk inclusions (0.5-1.5cm in diameter). No daub or charcoal flecking were noted. Also found was a deposit of dark-grey to almost black unfired clay.

The feature was cut through the terminus of ditch 012AD08087, and into sand & gravel, with a U-shaped profile.
