Discussion

 A large curvilinear enclosure ditch in the south of areas 12AA and 12AB, running roughly east/west. The ditch is parallel to, and cuts at the west end, similar ditch 012AB07181. It almost certainly continues eastwards from segment 012AA00450 to segment 012AA00014 although the continuation not visible on the ground. The ditch cut through similarly aligned but shorter ditch 012AB07184. It also cut through differently aligned curvilinear ditches 012AB07186 and 012AB00666. The remnants of two pits (012AB00529 and 012AB00533) were recovered from the cutting of the base of the ditch. Ditches 012AB07185, 012AB00427 and 012AB00991 were all cut through the ditch at later dates.

The material recovered from the ditch varies in date although the Roman coin dated to 235-238AD recovered from similarly aligned ditch 012AB07181 may indicate a similar date for this re-cut. Some Anglian material was also recovered (fragments of Niedermendig lava) from the western excavated segment (012AB00342) although this may have originated from the Grubenhaus (012AB07003) immediately to the north.
