Discussion

A malt kiln in the north of area 2DB. The data from the structure has been analysed as part of an experimental archaeological project by Patricia Fragola. A spit (002DB00297) covered the area of the kiln. The structure overlay a deep (31cm) buried soil (002DB00375). What was excavated as a small pit-type feature (002DB00388) just to the west of the structure is the flue, which provided the heat under a clay base constructed over a layer of large chalk blocks.
