This is one of three slots (with 012AD05662 and 012AD5796) which have a slightly different alignment Click here to see a colour coded plan of the different alignments of features to all of the other slots in the vicinity. Although this feature contained no diagnostic material culture, the slot immediately to the east ( 012AD05662) contained 12 Roman and 2 Anglian pot sherds, and may thus indicate a similar early Anglian date for this feature. The other slot with this alignment, 012AD5796, contained exclusively Roman material (33 pot sherds and 2 coins).

Discussion

Only a very small segment of this slot was excavated, perhaps explaining the lack of diagnostic finds. The fill was a silty clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/3), with between 5-10% chalk inclusions. Daub and charcoal flecking was noted.

The slot was cut into hillwash, with a wide-V profile. It was clearly seen to be cut by east-west enclosure ditch 012AD09136.
