Discussion
A cleaning spit to define features in the northern-central area of 12AA.
Due to the dry nature of the summer of 1995, the area was initially forked
over, shovel-scraped and then brushed before trowelling. The spit area
was determined by a remaining patch of darker soil, which was masking the
location of several slots. A styca was recovered from the spit, which,
together with a styca from another spit (012AA00133),
were both immediately above slot 012AA07088.
Also recovered was a spindle whorl made out of a fragment of Roman pot.
The removal of this spit did not fully define all of the slots below, although
3 of the slots (012AA00114, 012AA07088
and 012AA00060) in the south were further
defined. In the north, 2 short slots (012AA00048
and 012AA00336) and 3 post holes were
defined.
