Discussion

This was a narrow rectangular spit, (across a segment of ditches 012AD07050 and 012AD07210), excavated to try to define the discrete edges of the ditches.

Of the material culture recovered, all of the pottery was of a later Roman date (4 sherds), together with four oyster shells. The oyster shells almost certainly derive from deposit 012AD00396. Only a small number of animal bones were recovered, the majority of which were cattle.
