Slot

Phasing

This feature contained no finds. The sections indicate that the slot may have cut through pit 012AD05572, which had been dated to the Anglian period.

Discussion

During the excavation of these features it was not possible to say with any certainty that slot 012AD05534 was the same as 012AD05576, although in section this does appear to be the most likely possibility. They were both filled with a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour ranging from 10YR 4/2 to 10YR 4/3) with between 5-15% chalk inclusions. Daub and charcoal flecking was noted in both segments.

The slot was cut into hillwash, with a very straight-sided U profile.
