?Pit

Phasing

The only diagnostic material recovered were four late Romano-British sherds. Apart from being sealed by spit 012AD00385, the pit had no other stratigraphic relationships.

Discussion

The true extent of this pit was exceptionally difficult to define, and it remained ephemeral even during differential drying after rain (which was the only time it could be excavated). It contained a single fill (012AD05295), a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2), with 10% chalk inclusions. Charcoal flecking was noted (one sample taken).

The pit was cut into hillwash with a U-shaped profile.
