Slot
Phasing
The only diagnostic finds were three sherds of Romano-British pottery.
Apart from being defined by spit 012AD05189,
the slot had no other stratigraphic relationships. It has the same alignment
as enclosure 012AD08341, which terminates
immediately to the east, and which contained mainly Roman material culture,
although two Anglian sherds were also found.
Discussion
Only a short segment of the slot was excavated, as its true extent became
very elusive to the north-west (possibly completely plough truncated).
It contained a single fill, a dark sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR
3/2), with 10% chalk inclusions. Occasional daub flecking was noted. Three
snail samples were taken.
The slot was cut into hillwash, with a V-shaped profile.
