Discussion

A small curvilinear ditch in the north of area 11CD, one of two cut through the top of ditch 011CD07095. The ditches were not noticed in the previous year (11BD, 1991 season) although they are almost certainly present in the sections drawn for the 11BD excavation of ditch 011CD07095 (see the sections below). The ditches had a stonier fill in comparison to 011CD07095 and can be seen in pre-excavation photographs Site 11BD, north/west corner(Pre-excavation) to terminate to the west just after an eighteenth century field boundary. This is the earlier of the two parallel ditches and both also cut through a pit (011CD05564) and the cess layer in an enclosure ditch (011CE20012). The exact extent of the east end was not established in the field and it is possible both ditches continue through to area 11CE. The two ditches in the south side of enclosure ditch 011CE20011 may even be the continuation of these features. Both are of probable Anglian date.
