Discussion

A small, extremely shallow possible Grubenhaus in the south of area 11BD. The feature cut though slots 011BD01071 and 011BD01135 and was cut by slot 011BD01120 on the south/west and slot 011BD01087 on the north/east side. The relationship with curvilinear ditch 011BD07102 was not established. Although extremely shallow (a maximum of 7cm deep), it was believed to be a structure because of the proximity of two opposing post holes. The east end post hole was not issued with context numbers and was not excavated. The west end post hole (011BD01059) was planned outside the edge of the structure although the context record and sketch plans have it placed within. Due to the shallow nature of the structure it is likely that the post holes were within the hollow but the base of the feature had been entirely truncated, leaving the post holes isolated and the real dimensions of the structure unknown.
